My Grandmother Ate Blue Flowers (after Anna Maria Maiolino), 2018

A series, drypoint and watercolor on paper, 7.5 x 11 in

When my German great-grandmother left

her daughter in the Austrian Alps

as World War II broke out

my grandmother ate blue flowers:

Forget-Me-Nots.

These days, she likes flowers in her kitchen

and keeps telling me how she can’t remember.
