Counting Moons, 2019

Site-specific video installation on Salesforce Tower, San Francisco, May 18–20, 2019,

hand scratched and hole-punched 16mm film, re-recorded and edited digitally,

4 min 47 sec (35 sec excerpt)

The Salesforce Tower is the tallest building in San Francisco–the city where I was born.

It was completed in 2018, built on ground subject to potential liquefaction, and marks

the skyline as if it has been here all along.

In this site-specific video, a moon, made through hole punches into every 29th frame of a

a 16mm film strip, circles the tower’s four sides to materialize a cycle that will outlast

San Francisco: the recurring full moon.
